Hello, I know that this is a renderman channel, but it’s possible to
convert the Threads shader from RenderMan to Mentalray?

Rhino to 3dsmax export import?

Hi,

Is the best way to export from Rhino and then import to 3dsmax to
export in the IGES file in the 3dsmax 5 style? There isn’t a Rhino
import plugin available for 3dsmax?

Vector Math Help

Given a point (P), a direction vector (V) and its length (L). Is
it possible to find the second point at the end of the vector
drawn form P in the direction of V with length L?

IBL(HDRI)illumination on Point Cloud BSSRDF and depth based

Is it better to use bent normals in compositing to add a HDR
illumination on SSS or it is better during shading.What is the most
common way of affecting the absorbtion,colors and brightness of the SSS
with HDR in shading and will ambient occlusion kill the softness of SSS.

Building valid subdivision surfaces.

Hi all,

I wrote a renderman .dso which reads geometry file from a 3D package
and outputs it as a series of RiSubdivisionMesh calls. The geometry
itself is a series of non-connected subobjects. The subobjects
themselves are connected, which I understand is a requirement for subd
surfaces…

What I get are warnings stating that only xxx vertices are reachable
out of xxx… not the exact message of course…

Now I’m wondering why this is.

Some extra info:
  – the surfaces are connected
  – the subobjects are sent as separate subd calls.
  – the points for the entire mesh are sent along with the subd call
(not only the points for the subobject) – does this matter?
  – the mesh is a combination of quads and triangles

Any ideas would be appreciated.
